From my many years of research a picture has formed, and I might add, a very palatable image in which a more likely reality offers up the idea that previous to the Crusades, Christendom was a huge realm with monarchs overseeing each nation under the authority of a Church that represented the message in the Gospels.  The system was administered through the Abbeys and Monasteries, the biggest and most powerful of which in Europe, was the Abbey at Cluny in Burgundy. From 909 AD, this monastery was taken over by the warrior cast, the Carolingian dynasty, who then set about inverting the Benedictine doctrine on land ownership and became a powerful religious order that required land and more land ad infinitum. Land became their currency. Incredible. Is that a picture of the ark above the mountain? Strange shape. It looks like one of these: The 14th century English traveler John Mandeville is another early author who mentioned Mount Ararat, "where Noah's ship rested,  and it is still there ." (wikipedia) Who is John Mandeville? An author, whos famous 1350 travel reports were widely read, but are so fantastical that historians put it all into the realm of fantasy nowdays. Despite this supposed unreliability, Columbus and Marco Polo used his reports as a basis for their travels. What does he claim? For example that  Jerusalem is at the south pole and the center of the world . Amazing. More fuel to the fire. I love it when historical accounts back up the maps and what I am seeing.
